SCIENCE x Fire: Fire history and fire ecology

February 27, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm PST

The SCIENCEx webinar series brings together scientists and land management experts from across U.S. Forest Service research stations and beyond to explore the latest science and best practices for addressing large natural resource challenges across the country.

These webinars will be primarily management focused, but with applicability for participants from across sectors. SCIENCEx will typically be organized as week-long webinar ‘blitzes’ around salient topics, allowing for deep-dives into subtopics or dynamics within specific geographies.

ScienceX Webinars are eligible for the following continuing education credits:

  • Society of American Foresters – Certified Forester Education (SAF-CFE)
  • The Wildlife Society (TWS) Continuing Education Credits

Monday’s webinar features:

  • Introduction to SCIENCEx Fire Week, brief overview by Jens Stevens
  • Indigenous Fire Stewardship and Cultural burning, presented by Frank Lake
  • Fire exclusion and western forest change, presented by Eric Knapp
  • A history of fire in the eastern US: How humans modified fire regimes through the Holocene, presented by Dan Dey

Day and time: February 27, 2023, 2-3pm ET (1-2pm CT, 12-1pm MT, 11-12pm PT)
