Ecological Forestry in the Context of Climate Change – Ecological Silviculture for Inter Mountain Mixed Conifer and Interior Dry Pine and Sierra Nevada Conifer Forests and the Synergistic Effects of Drought, Fire, and Mountain Pine Beetle

January 16 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am PST

This 12-part monthly webinar series tells a story about how small- and large-scale forest disturbance, such as fire, wind, ice storms, hurricanes, sea-level rise, flooding, introduced and endemic forest pests, and others, impact forest ecosystems. The series will also examine ecological silviculture and climate adaptation approaches to help inform forest and wildlife management.

Webinars are presented in a Zoom format. You must register in advance. Registration is for all webinars in the series. Webinar recordings will be posted to the NCTC Webinar Gallery and Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science YouTube at a later date.

  • Speaker to be determined. This presentation will focus on Ponderosa and Lodge pole pine dynamics. It will discuss the synergistic effects of drought, mountain pine beetle, and fire, the decline in conifer forest cover in the southern Sierra Nevada range of California, and the impacts of mega-disturbances on a landscape scale.
