All About Arbutus – A workshop covering pacific madrone from A to Z

Join the PNW’s foremost madrone expert Marianne Elliott (Washington State University) and ecologist Michael Yadrick to learn all about the west’s most striking tree, pacific madrone. Arbutus menziesii also known as madrona or madroño, is the largest flowering tree of the family Ericaceae. The tree is widely recognized as a regional and cultural icon on the West Coast of North America.

The All About Arbutus workshop in Southern Oregon

This workshop in Roseburg, Oregon, will combine classroom presentations and a walk in a madrone/oak forest. We will discuss madrone 101 and beyond, including but not limited to the tree’s:

  • Changing geographic range
  • Climate adaptive capacity
  • Community ecology
  • Uses by wildlife and humans
  • Decline due to diseases and pests
  • Propagation
  • Research about the species
  • Ways to get involved in madrone community science.
