The National Academies Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate invites you to this hybrid workshop on September 13-15, 2023, exploring our current understanding of how changes in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from wildland fires could affect our ability to achieve ‘net-zero’ GHG emissions targets.
Through a series of panels and breakout sessions, workshop participants will discuss the likelihood of more frequent megafires in remote regions, where management options are limited, and the potential for these regions to be large GHG emissions sources. Discussions will identify opportunities to improve measurements and model projections of emissions in order to advance understanding and inform management practices that could limit emissions from wildland fires, for both current and future action plans.
Participants can engage in the workshop in-person in Washington, D.C., or virtually. Register for additional information about in-person attendance.
