One newly listed species, marram or introduced beach grasses are a new species on the list with broad impacts to coastal communities. Learn how we can identify these species and prevent negative impacts along Puget Sound nearshore habitats

Pesticides & the Environment

There are many proven strategies on how to protect ourselves and the environment from pesticides. This will include the use of proper PPE, reading the label, and appropriate use and alternatives to pesticides. It will also detail some statistics on how we track and see pesticides show up in the environment and how we can reduce our impact.

WSDA Technical Services & Educational Opportunities

Learn about some of the services offered by the WSDA’s Technical Services and Education Program (TSEP). This program has many great offerings that include pesticide waste disposal, private applicator training (in Spanish), Worker Protection Safety (WPS) training for trainers, WPS pesticide handler training, air blast sprayer calibration and configuration, educational pesticide videos, and more. These programs will be overviewed so that pesticide handlers know how to best access the offerings of this program.

Learn how to identify some common aquatic invasive species. Discussion of how to navigate aquatic herbicides: permits, common landowner concerns, ecological impacts.

Invasion Biology: Understanding Outbreaks in Forest Systems

Reviewing the fundamentals that explain why pest, pathogen, and weed outbreaks happen in a forest system for both non-native and native organisms. Focus on the big picture to help you understand what is happening in your forest! This talk will cover a variety of local pests and pathogens including but not limited to: white pine blister rust, flatheaded fir borer, Swiss needle cast, larch needle cast/blight, balsam woolly adelgid, and the emerald ash borer.
