Investing in America’s Forests: Expanding Rural Access to the Voluntary Carbon Market

March 21, 2023 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am PDT

Voluntary carbon markets are an important pathway to providing rural landowners a financial stream to offset the cost of sustainable forest management and to create wealth for their families. But many barriers prevent forest owners from accessing and participating in the market – from concerns of market credibility and viability, to the need for public-private investment to further support the market.

Join the American Forest Foundation for Investing in America’s Forests: Expanding Rural Access to the Voluntary Carbon Market, a virtual discussion about increasing investment in rural landowners through finding innovative financing pathways that support America’s communities and forests. Hear from experts on how voluntary markets are credible and necessary for scaled conservation outcomes; how leveraging federal funding with private investments can accelerate climate mitigation in forest landscapes; and how investments in voluntary private markets create opportunities for new and growing economies for rural communities.

Moderator: Lesley Jantarasami, Managing Director of the Energy Program at the Bipartisan Policy Center
Panelists: Nathan Truitt, executive vice president of climate funding, The American Forest Foundation
Timothy Male, Executive Director, Environmental Policy Innovation Center
Jim Gebhardt, U.S. EPA Water Infrastructure and Resilience Finance Center
