Laminated root rot is one of the most prolific forest health issues that forest landowners face. While this fungal disease is a natural part of our forest ecosystems, it can cause major conflicts with landowner objectives and create serious safety hazards. If left unchecked, the disease will steadily spread, killing susceptible tree species it infects. Douglas-fir, grand fir, western hemlock, and Sitka spruce are all susceptible. Fortunately, there is a management strategy to mitigate the problem and arrest the spread of the disease

On this field tour, you will explore a laminated root rot site that just had a sanitation harvest done to mitigate and stop the spread of the disease. This is the most common and reliable treatment for laminated root rot. This tour will show you a real example of how this treatment is done. You will learn how the disease was diagnosed, what the disease does, how the sanitation harvest was laid out, and the regeneration strategy to ensure a long-term healthy and resilient forest on this site. Experts will provide tips on how to manage laminated root rot on your own property and show you what to expect.

The tour will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

This tour will be held at Crystal Lake Tree Farm in Woodinville, WA. Driving and parking details will be sent out via e-mail to registered attendees.

Cost and Registration

The cost to attend is $15 per household. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required. Register early to reserve your spot. Registration deadline is 5:00 p.m. November 15, 2023. Any cancellation requests must be received no later than November 10th to be eligible for a refund.
