For the Portland SAF Chapter’s January meeting, our program will feature John Bailey, professor of silviculture and fire management, Oregon State University. Bailey will give broad context and updates on the wildfire situation (particularly in the Pacific Northwest),
the impacts that wildfires are now having, and the professional challenges they are highlighting. Starting with the basics of the fire behavior triangle, he’ll examine the interacting roles of changes in the fuels matrix across our landscapes, changes in our fire season, and changes in our human communities and behaviors. These three set the stage for the wildfires of the past, present …and future.
