The Heat is On: Using Urban Tree Canopy to Cool Communities Webinar

August 14 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am PDT

Over the last 10 years we have hosted several webinars focused on urban heat islands, showing that cities are hotter than the surrounding areas and that heat impacts on vulnerable populations are particularly severe and deadly. We have shared strategies for engaging residents and collecting data (community science) to better target tree planting activities where it matters most. In this webinar, in collaboration with heat.gov, we will visit communities who used their heat maps to implement tree planting and maintenance plans.

  • Travis Warziniack and Nick Williams USDA Forest Service Research and Development
  • Erica Smith Fichman Philadelphia Parks & Recreation
  • Beatrice Miringu and Simon Nyi City of Toledo Department of Public Utilities
